ABOUT TANZANITE:
Found in just one place on earth, tanzanite was discovered by Manuel de Sousa, a Portuguese from Goa in the late 60’s.
This blue variety of zoisite was named for Tanzania, the country where it was found, by Tiffany & Co.
Although once considered only as an alternative to sapphire, it has quickly established itself as one of the premier gemstones in the world.
Being a pleochroic gem, it can show different colours when viewed in different crystal directions, and it is usual heat treated to increase its natural color.
